Raw material

The expertise of a string maker can be exceptional, but without the use of equally high-quality raw material, a string will not perform well. Historical sources repeatedly stress the importance of the quality of the raw gut. This is the reason why we pay careful attention to the selection and processing of the lamb guts used for our strings.

Schafherde
Origin, breed, husbandry, and the age of slaughter are of great importance.

The small intestine is stripped of manure and made ready for further processing.

Our raw gut is stripped exclusively by hand, according to historic tradition.
A cleaning machine will never be able to clean as gently as an experienced gut cleaner using only his hands, a reed, and years of practice.
Every single intestine, also known as a casing, is rinsed with water and checked for defects.
The casings are selected and sorted according to clear criteria.
